Happy Lantern Festival! 🏮🎇

Happy Lantern Festival! This marks the end of the Chinese New Year celebration (it lasts for two weeks haha). We celebrate by eating one of my favorite childhood desserts, glutinous rice balls (tangyuan)! 🤤💕

Rice ball cow and Boba cow can’t wait to eat some tangyuan! 🙌🏻

Checking In and Update on my Current Project! ✨

Hi everyone! I hope you are all safe, healthy, and well during these hectic times!

These past few months have been crazy with me starting Pre-Production in May for my thesis project Metamorphosis. The game is a 2D narrative experience where you play as a magical undersea creature who must consume toxic contaminants in order to restore the environment. Over the summer, I went from having one teammate, to having 15+ teammates 🤯 I was mind-blown, but super happy and grateful to have found teammates who want to work with me on this project 🌸

With Fall semester underway (we’re already in Week 6!), we’ve moved into Production, and the project is really coming along. My teammates are working hard to balance their own schedules with working on Metamorphosis. I’m very excited to keep you all updated, so stay tuned! ✨🙆🏻‍♀️

A Boba Cafe - Animation using Procreate

I wanted to try making small, simple animations to post on my Instagram story, so I attempted one using Procreate’s new animation assist feature. It’s a really nice addition to the app and makes animating soooooo much easier, I highly recommend it!

Here’s the animation I made for a Let’s Make A Boba of the Day story post I’m planning on continuing for my Instagram!

A Boba Cafe - The Beginning!

Back in April 2019, I wrote an interactive story for a game about a wolf-human named TianLang who has the amazing superpower of making the perfect boba drink for his customers at A Boba Cafe. I wanted to make this game a reality, and what better time to start than now! 🙌🏻

When I first started grad school at USC for Interactive Media and Games in August 2018, I had little (if not no) experience in Unity. I was limited in my ability to create digital prototypes in a timely manner, which led to me not being able to take my time on personal projects amidst my chaotic school schedule. However, in less than a year, I was able to become proficient and comfortable enough with Unity to attempt prototyping and coding for my own purposes.

I started making my game in December 2019 while I was on Winter Break. Now that school started again, it’ll take a while to make my game since I’ll be balancing school work with personal work. But I’m determined to keep working on it to bring my stories and characters to life! I hope you all look forward to seeing A Boba Cafe! 🙆🏻‍♀️💕 In the meantime, here are some images of my characters (from left to right) - Qilin, Bobasaur, and TianLang!

Unreal - Tracer Recall Ability

I completed Matthew Palaje’s Tracer Recall Ability Tutorial back in December and it was a MONSTER to attempt!! 😵 I thought I was finally getting the hang of fitting all the Blueprints drawings and notes into my tiny Moleskine notebook, but this tutorial proved me wrong LOL. There was so much to write and code that I had to transfer my notes to a giant piece of paper just so I can visualize the entire Blueprint!

I’m sad I didn’t get to post this earlier! I got sick after Christmas and everything went downhill from there lol 😂 But I’m feeling better now and I’m excited to get back into my work schedule! 💪🏻🔥

Learning Unreal!

It’s winter break, which means it’s time to rest and level up some game design skills! I’ve been learning how to use Unreal for the past 2 weeks using Matthew Palaje’s “Let’s Create” Tutorials and they are incredibly helpful and easy to follow. Here are some of the early examples of notes I wrote down while redrawing the Blueprints that really helped me better understand the logic flow! (Needless to say, I wasn’t ready for the spatial complexity of Blueprints 😂)
